LOOKING FORWARD TO 2014
Greetings.
Before I decided to self-publish Portrait of a Legend and other Folks I did my research and continually update my knowledge about the book market. I decided to choose as my model probably the largest market on the planet, The United States of America.
Here are some key facts, as of July, 2013.
THE U.S. BOOK MARKET: Information about the U.S. economic situations in numbers: Area: 9,826,675 km2 Population: 316,278,000 Literacy rate: 97.9% Gross Domestic Product: $15.685 trillion Inflation rate: 1.8 (June 2013) Unemployment rate: 7.6 (May 2013)
"While all genres were strong, US publishers’ titles for children and youth, particularly Young Adult Fiction, showed powerful growth in nearly every international market and especially in Asia. The numbers were driven by contemporary authors and titles as well as perennial classics, both of which have strong global footholds. Fiction sales were particularly strong in print paperback editions. The consistent growth of e-books demonstrates that publishers have successfully evolved the technology environment for their content more so than other historically print-based content industries. E-books grew 45% since 2011 and now constitute 20% of the Trade market, playing an integral role in 2012 Trade revenue. The most pivotal driver of e-books remains Adult Fiction, with Children’s/Young Adult also showing strong numbers. While e-books keep growing, hard-cover and trade paperback formats continued to hold steady in 2012. The audio-book format, which has shown momentum over the past few years with the rise of mobile devices and interest in purchasing quality downloadable content for them, also remains solid." ~ GBO-New York.
According to BookStats figures released recently by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the Book Industry Study Group (BISG), books generated $25 billion in revenue in 2012, up 6.9% from the year before.
Conclusion:
In 2014, POALAOF publishing will focus primarily on the US market.

DEAR FRIENDS
Dear friends.
Over a five year period I created a small publishing company named POALAOF.
In August 2013, and in the presence of the Jamaican High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Mrs Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, POALAOF published its first book, Portrait of a Legend and other Folks. This is a 300 page, gold embossed, hard cover book containing my original work over thirty-five years and with words by Jamaican legend Bob Marley. It is a reasonably priced book to both individuals and corporations and the self-published author is a trend that will become a mandatory element in the publishing business in the future. At this time POALAOF has succeeded in start-up but is still short of an important goal of obtaining adequate working capital.
I would now like to extend to my friends a golden opportunity to become a part of this potentially incredibly profitable business. To ease any concerns you might express about the risk involved, keep in mind that I am not asking for any large investment as I plan to offer a percentage of the profit after expenses. As a sole-trader, I can explain in more detail what that means, but rest assured that it will serve to allay any concerns you have about your own economic risk.
POALAOF has already separated itself from the competition because Portrait of a Legend and other Folks contains probably some of the last unpublished photographs of Bob Marley. POALAOF will also utilize the many social media outlets available on the Internet and will shortly have a dramatic web presence that is currently being created by a reputable web-site designer. Therefore, POALAOF will not be limited and will potentially have a global customer base. Market research has indicated that because there is a high Bob Marley fan base worldwide, Portrait of a Legend and other Folks will become affordable because with adequate investment, the printing of a larger stock of books will dramatically lower the cover price. POALAOF intention is also to fill the gap between the high-end, prohibitively expensive customized books, and the lack-lustre paper back lower end market. POALAOF will therefore offer an exciting alternative in the form of a memorable book that will also be affordable.
The global book market dwarfs those of films and music combined and the American market alone generate sales in excess of US $27 billion each year. Companies and multi-national corporations are experiencing more and more needs for gifts: congratulatory gifts, sympathy gifts, gifts to welcome a new high-level employee or simply to give thanks to a long-standing employee. In addition, the clientèle for corporate gifts is constantly expanding. Practically any kind of business represents an opportunity to provide steady revenue from an adequately priced book.
POALAOF cash flow is admittedly constricted and currently non-existent during this initial phase. Once adequate investment is secured for the production of a larger stock of books, revenues will begin to flow and POALAOF can then move toward publishing more affordable books and ebooks. Cash flow difficulties are faced by all new businesses and POALAOF is therefore not exempt. POALAOF also applied for a Small Business loan but currently there is an enormous amount of competition for these loans and with no adequate collateral POALAOF application was refused. Despite that however, I have pursued all possible avenues for investment capital and after three months, I believe it is now time to take a chance to ask those friends with long term visions to think positively about this opportunity.
Over a period of five years I conducted a great deal of research and am well aware of the risks involved in any new venture, but I firmly believe that this is a business opportunity that is bound to grow. Currently, there is very little competition and none of them have the unpublished images that adorn Portrait of a Legend and other Folks.
Please consider helping with much needed working capital because Portrait of a Legend and other Folks will become an important piece of documentary work in the future.
Thanking you.

IRIGINAL LIMITED EDITION BOB MARLEY T-SHIRT
I just received this image showing Mr Damian Marley displaying his Iriginal Limited Edition Bob Marley t-shirt with Mr Stephen Marley and Mr Julian Marley at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival.
I think the others are keeping theirs in a safe place.
And no, I did not take one pic that day as I was busy hob-nobbing with the stars backstage.

RAS SAM BROWN MYSTIC, POET, ORATOR, SAINT, PAINTER
I was blessed to spend many a days reasoning with both Sam Brown and Mortimo Planno.
Ras Sam Brown photographed at the home of Robert Nesta.

Ras Brown is one of the most complex personalities within the Rastafarian movement. He combines in his person the attributes of a mystic, poet, orator, saint, painter, and what a government official called “a lovable rascal.” In his presence at one given moment, one feels free and relaxed, and in the next moment tense and frightened. Since the early beginnings of the movement he has...
been one of the most ardent Rastafarians and is today one of its most important poets, if not the best. Born in the parish of Trelawny in 1925, he attended the local elementary school and was so brilliant a student that it is reported he won a scholarship to a prestigious secondary school in Kingston, but failed to accept the offer because of poverty. After working at various trades he became interested in printing. By 1965, when the author [Leonard E. Barrett, Sr., THE RASTAFARIANS] met him, he was without a job and was the leader of a group of brethren in Back-O-wall. He told the author how vividly he remembered the night he heard Marcus Garvey in Edelweise Park, when he was only five years of age-a mere tot brought by his mother who was a member of the Garvey movement.

ABORTION ~RAS SAM BROWN
O terrible sin abortion! It is the worst of all
Eight letters spell the deadly sin, so is downfall
The wickedness of murderess destroy the yet unborn...
They never gave the seed a chance to see creation's Morn.
There are many who defend such acts based on economy
Heartless creatures-if they had been aborted-they'd be non-entities
It is said man should multiply, he should replenish earth
Yet in the eyes of wicked men, the unborn is of no worth.
It is given to man to use all things, yet life is God's control
If God had aborted First Man, there wouldn't be a living soul
Some shades of people take hormones, they try to live forevever
Yet for the other shades of men, destrucion is their endeavor
The earth create with broad expanse that men should be prolific
But the crude acts of the seeming wise, prove men's minds are sick
When the enemies are at thy gates, thine offsprings are arrows in thy bows
With thy large united house, the enemies are laid low
Some people love their people, they control food not birth
From the born to the yet unborn each has a place on earth
So it is for all to shun such acts that man may live his days
Dread repercussion shall be their lot for persistence in evil ways.

Marcia Griffiths ~ When we went to different places in Europe and I saw the multitude of people that came out to see this man, Bob Marley, I prayed every time I saw this multitude. I always asked God that if it is even a handful of these people will receive the message and hear the word and wouldn’t fall on deaf ears, the message that he was delivering to the people. I knew then that Bob was truly a messenger, through the medium of reggae music.

Judy Mowatt ~ I had gotten to realize, you know reading my Bibles, that this man was really Joseph in his second advent. Joseph who his brothers had sold into Egypt. It was Joseph who had redeemed his brothers, who would have starved to death because of the famine in Egypt and not only his brothers but for the world in that time and I saw in the man in this time that he came not only in this time with the physical corn to feed his people but he came with the spiritual corn which was the message that transcended to the four corners of the world.

Rita Marley ~Bob was born rich, that was his quality. His richness was on the spiritual level, the gift of God. The inspiration that he had to give was His glory.
