LEGALIZE IT

HERB IS THE HEALING OF THE NATION

"Babylon knows the wisdom you get from smoking ganja and they need to keep you down from your meditation. They keep fighting against I herb you overstand? Because it's I herb, it's one special herb to segregate and is herb, no man can make it, it comes from earth, it's a herb of truth and wisdom. I think if ganja was legalized there would be positively less problems with cocaine and crack. When people would smoke herb, it would be a meditation, humbleness put them to i-tate, you overstand? But when you drink rum, it's a different scene and you look over, you going to see who is causing the problem. It's the crack, the heroin, cocaine, morphine, alcohol and cigarettes. Herb put you upon humbleness, cause it's a healing herb. In Guyana you can go to jail for three years just for one spliff. Lots of Rastas are prosecuted for herb. Not for killing or thieving from no one, just for smoking the herb. But man need to be free from mental slavery. They kill brother Marley, Peter Tosh, Marcus Garvey for speaking the truth, cause word Bob Marley was putting out fire upon Babylon. If Bob Marley was on the face of the earth in this time, everyone would be Rasta, because he speaks the truth and he sign it in his music and truth stands forever. But they can never stop I because if they put I in jail for three years, I when I come out I still have to smoke I herb, because I herb is I divine meditation, I free to do what I need to do. Well, Peter Tosh was basically the reason really behind my getting into reggae, because when I first heard Peter Tosh, I really liked his music and I really liked his message. Basically, everything about Peter Tosh really was great. He is still even today the foundation of what I’m doing. ~ Lucky Dube

THE WAILERS AND JOE HIGGS

Joe Higgs helped me to understand that music. He taught me many tings.

Joe Higgs was a brother amongst the Wailers for years. He was encouragement and he inspired us and kept us together.

We looked up to Joe Higgs. He was something like a musical guardian for us. He was a more professional singer, because he was workin' for years wit' a fella named Roy Wilson as Higgs & Wilson. They had a lotta hits and they had the knowledge of the harmony techniques, so he taught us [The Wailers] them. And he 'elped in the studio, to work out our different parts.

THE TRINITY

In everything there is good and bad, even in technology. And when the white man is in power, he doesn't want to acknowledge the black man is his brother. Men must learn to live together, in harmony with each other. All of what the white leaders did has been machine guns and bombs. So, we disqualify them as leaders, or they rather disqualify themselves because they ignore the right way. They still think they must kill to survive. The white man failed to rule the world. Now the black man's time has come.

But all these t’ings have to happen, if it don’t happen, Rasta wouldn’t write. It’s the youth that do it, it’s not our people. JAH say when ya’ call of my name, ya’ mother, ya’ father, ya’ best friend, everyone turn against you just because you say Rastafari is the Almighty. Seen? If I and I should go to church and baptize in the name of Jesus and accept the gift of the Holy Ghost and join the army of ignorance, I would get a whole heap of recognition. Maybe have a church by this (time). According to my knowledge, philosophically, spiritually and mentally I could build a church. But true, if I get a church now, it’s to go wake up the slumbering mentality of the youth dem, who dem try to brainwash and lead astray in blood claat fantasy and imagination.
The world say I think subversive, but truthful rights I deal with, equal right and justice that I stand for, because I have got too much injustice for the good that I do. If I and I was doing wickedness I’d kill up a whole heap of blood claat. Ya’ know seen. Yes I. Dem know that I am doing goodness, so dem fight against I.

It is dangerous to think that reggae is the responsibility of one individual. I don’t see it that way. I am just a part of the shoulder that the music rests upon.
